Plumber, Drainer and Gasfitter Licences Explained
Queensland licenses the person and the business separately, and the QBCC grants both. The first layer, the occupational licence, shows the holder's trade skill. The second, the contractor licence, shows the firm taking the job on can run it as a business.
Local Bray Park Plumbing works under QBCC No: 15024607, licensed and insured. Three licence classes then divide the work itself:
Plumber
takes in taps, pipework and fixtures, minus work that needs a separate endorsement.
Drainer
takes in below-ground drainage, with the same exception.
Gasfitter
gas work has its own class. Fitting, changing, fixing, servicing, testing and signing off a gas system and its pipework all require a licensed gasfitter. Ask to see the gasfitter's licence before work starts.

How Plumbing Work Is Regulated in Queensland
Oversight is shared: the QBCC licenses plumbers and records notifiable jobs, while the local council grants permits and inspects. Regulated plumbing and drainage work splits into three categories: work that needs a permit, work that must be notified, and minor work. A licence holder does all three, which the QBCC says protects the house, your health and your rights as an owner.
The paperwork you receive depends on the job:
Form 4
you receive the Form 4 after notifiable work. The QBCC will reissue one if it never turns up.
Gas compliance certificate
once gas work on a new fit-out or alteration wraps up, you receive the gas compliance certificate straight away. We send a duplicate to the network operator inside five days where the system is network-fed.
You can also ask the council to look over notifiable jobs whenever you like. The QBCC's online register shows whether a plumber is licensed, and searching by address reveals whether a Form 4 was lodged for a property.
How a Plumbing Job Runs From Call to Finish
- 1

The call
You ring (07) 3524 7163 or send a message describing the problem, whether it's a dripping mixer or a full bathroom renovation.
- 2

Diagnosis on site
We inspect, test and find the cause. Much of our work here is in detached brick houses built from the 1970s through the 1990s, where ageing drains and worn fittings are common culprits.
- 3

The quote and the work
You see a fixed quote before any work starts, with flat-rate pricing and no hidden fees. Nothing goes ahead until you're happy with the figure.
- 4

Testing and paperwork
We test the repair, then hand over any Form 4 or gas certificate the job requires. Settle by card or EFTPOS once the work's done, or choose Fix now, pay later.

Questions People Ask Before Booking
Call (07) 3524 7163How do I check a plumber's licence in Queensland?
Use the QBCC's online register, which lists every current licence holder. An address search there also shows whether a Form 4 has been registered for your property. Ask for the licence number before any job starts.
What is the difference between a plumber and a drainer?
A plumber's licence takes in the water side: taps, pipework and fixtures. A drainer's licence is for below-ground drainage, including the sewer line and the stormwater line. Gas work needs a separate licence again.
Who inspects plumbing work in a Bray Park home?
The City of Moreton Bay grants permits and inspects plumbing work, while the QBCC runs licensing and the notifiable jobs system. Owners can request a council check of notifiable work at any time. The council may also attend within a year of our notice, if the resident agrees.
